Term 2 2009!

Hello world!

Welcome to the blog site of The Bazzas!  We’re a Stage 3 class in Sydney, Australia.

Last term we studied a wonderful unit on our local area!  We learnt a lot about the history of Belmore.  Mrs Penman and Mrs Harrison came in to our class to chat about the history of Belmore South Public (Mrs Penman came here as a student and Mrs Harrison has taught here for many years.)  After a few lessons in class, we went for a walk around Belmore and Kingsgrove to check out The St George Hotel, The Towers, The Moorefields Rd cemetery and the old site of Belmore South PS next to the cemetery!

Lastly, we finished off our unit by having an old fashioned school day.  We all dressed up and took lessons from 1919.  It was so different to what we’re used to!

“I enjoyed this unit because I learnt new things and I think it’s really important to know the history about the area that we live in” Sonia

“I enjoyed this unit because it helps me remember everything about the history of Canterbury and Belmore-like the immigrants and other things” Tyrone

“I liked this unit because I learnt a lot of things that I didn’t know (especially about this school). Also because we got to go for the walk around Belmore which wasn’t like any other usual excursion.  It was tops:) ” Sokeina

“It was fun” Hannah

“I like feeling the history around me” Jihad

The Towers

Our class at ‘The Towers’

At the site of the old Moorefields Rd Public School and the cemetery.

At the site of the first public school in Belmore- ‘Moorefields Rd Public School’.  It would have been a spooky school to attend as the church and cemetery are just over the back fence!

    Hi,
I really enjoyed studying about this unit because it was like going into the past but being in the exact same place. It was like an amazing fossil discovery. I escpecially liked the history walk we went on because it was like a history book that never ended just contiued on and on. When we were inside the towers and looked up, I felt an ant because on the outside it didn’t look that high but when we went inside it was like a winding staircase that lead to the clouds and yet continued. I really liked this unit because of when Mrs Harrison and Mrs Penman came in to talk to us. We saw some amazing photos of places in belmore that we didn’t even think were in here. The picture that suprised was not any that ms harrison ro penman showed us but it was a photo our teacher showed us. It was a photo of canterbury road and behind it was our school on its opening day. It was amazing to see the changes from back then till now. Back then the girls wore white dresse and sometimes a bonnet and boys would have to wear like a suit.
    Tooooooooooooooooooooooodles :) :)

I like your blog. It is really interesting to read about what you are doing in class. Are there any other schools around the world doing similar histiry studies to you. The Aboriginal artworks are beautiful.

    Well, I’m up in Queensland.
My parents own a farm up here…so i live here
    It’s fab!
But I really miss my 3 older sisters…
1 of my sister’s is 30, so she own a house here and has her own kids, and my 2 older sisters Salsabila and Momtahina live down in Lakemba with my sister because there is no high school near where we live…
Anyway, that is so cool!!! You learnt about the school’s history…
    You lucky ones….
and had a little tour around the area…
    WOW!I wish i did that…

P.S. This is for Sokeina—When i talked to my sister on the phone, she told me that she has been trying to call you all holidays. But nobody ever picks the phone up…
    Okay..
    Have a GREAT HOLIDAY EVERYONE!!!
