Hi Ampilatwatja,

We loved your questions. We got into groups of 3 and we wrote down answers to your questions. Then we wrote the answers underneath.

What is your teacher’s name?

OUR TEACHERS NAME IS MS KRISENTHAL SHE IS VERY COOL AND LOVES DOING ART. By Matia, Nancy and Georgia

Do you have a swimming pool?

No we don’t have a swimming pool at school but our school has a playground. Some of us have a swimming pool at home. Some of us go to the local swimming pool if we want to have a swim. From Samuel, Steven and Tyrone

Do you have disco in Sydney? Every Friday we have a disco.

You are so lucky you get a disco every Friday we only get one once a year in Term Four. It goes for an hour and a half.
Alfonsina: I’m from South America and I go to a lot of parties and there is a lot of dancing.
Sonia: I love to dance. I don’t go to a lot of parties so I dance in my room for fun.
From Latika, Alfonsina and Sonia

Do you have grass at school?

Yes we do have grass. Every lunchtime we always play on it. We even have grass at home, but at some places we don’t have grass. Instead we have concrete and dirt. We saw your amazing red dirt in the photos that Ms Krisenthal took when she went to Ampilatwatja. Our dirt isn’t red, it’s brown.

Andrea, Cherise and Anna

Do you have cold water?

Yes we do, People usually get it from the tap and drink the water. Sometimes we get our water from people who bottle it in the mountains where the water is fresher. Plus we put the water into the fridge to make it cooler.

By Kenny, Haley, Matthew, Charbel

Do you live near the sea?

N0 we don’t leave near the sea but on hot days we go to the beach and we play beach volleyball or swim or even make sandcastles. Depending on which beach you are going to the time it takes to get there is different. To get to Sydney’s famous beach, Bondi beach, it takes about an hour. Meanwhile you will be driving past shops and houses.

Ramadam, Ashley, Sokeina and Missy

Do you have a swing?
No we don’t have a swing but we can go to the park and play on then swings with all of our friends. By Matia, Nancyand Georgia.

Do you like soccer?

Yes we do like soccer. Every lunch time students from our class go down to play soccer in a grassy area. After school most of the boys and girls go to the park and play against each other.

Hannah, Vivian and Wing

Do you like tea parties?

Yes we like tea parties too. At some of our tea parties we drink English tea and have jam, scones and cupcakes

Ramadam, Ashley, Sokeina and Missy

Do you have a toothbrush?

Yes, everyone has a toothbrush, we always brush our teeth at home every day and at night. It is also good for you, if you brush everyday you can be healthy and have white teeth. Our whole class has white teeth.

Harry, Wunpini, Simon and Deng

We like playing sport, doing art, learning about geography and science, writing, reading and doing maths!!

On our weekends we hang out with friends, ride our bikes, listen to music, play on our computers and Wiis, go to the movies, go to church and the mosque and go swimming. A few of us love to sleep in!

We’d love to find out some more about you.

Can we ask you some questions?

Where is Ampilatwatja?
What is your language?
How many kids are in your class?
How old are the kids in your class?
What subjects do you enjoy?
Are there any snakes around your area? What other kinds of animals are there around your place?
Do you do tests? Do you have homework?

We hope you like our blog and we look forward to hearing from you!

On Monday 61 Stage 3 students and 4 teachers left BSPS at 7:45 to travel to Canberra for a busy 3 day excursion to our Nation’s capital!

We visited The War Memorial, Old Parliament House and the Electoral Education Office, The High Court, Parliament House, The Royal Australian Mint, Old Parliament House for a historic debate in the House of Representatives, the Embassies, The Australian Institute of Sport, Black Mountain and Telstra Tower (in the middle of a HUGE thunderstorm-scary!), Questacon and the National Museum!! We then split up into groups and wrote a narrative about the movements of the elevator.
Since we’re all such stars, we decided that we wanted to film our stories and publish them on our blog.
We hope you enjoy them-you may need to turn up your volume!

P.S. Sorry about the camera work on some of the videos, we think that maybe a bunyip attacked the film crew!

At the start we took a while to set up for the corroboree. At first we had to paint our faces which was fun. Secondly we had to finish off our plays and outfits and get ready. Thirdly we went down to area seven and set up for our performances and damper. We all performed very well. After that we all got our damper and sat around the hot fire and we were cooking the damper. Then we went to put out the fire and pack up.

We discussed everything we wanted to learn about the aboriginal culture. The legends, the group names, the different types of food, the way they hunted and the weapons they used. Our teacher brought some items in that she found and students also contributed to our collection of Aboriginal items on our display desk. We are currently creating our own Dreamtime stories for our corroboree that we are going to have in 2 weeks time or earlier. At the corroboree we are going to have a campfire and we are going to cook kangaroo meat, roast marshmallows and eat damper. Also we are going to present our stories in play form at the corroboree. Recently we have started making a rainbow serpent (the Dreamtime story told us that the Rainbow Serpent created everything) out of coloured paper and using the chains.
